Help us keep our cafe open!
Support your local community cafe! As a result of high rent, a COVID delay to our opening, and no grant support we are facing significant headwinds in our mission to continue to serve our community. The Lazy Rose Cafe is dedicated to serving relaxation one sip at a time. We have cultivated a warm inviting calm space in the heart of Los Angeles, with the most diverse of communities for the past year and a half.
We established our cafe in 2020; as a primarily online presence while serving the community at a variety of pop-up vendor shows. Due to early success, we targeted our current space next to the Debonair Cigar Lounge on La Brea and Edgewood. Despite the pandemic , this opportunity and our optimistic spirits driven by our dream to serve the community led us to press ahead.
Erdavria Rose, Antonio Martin, Yvonne and Kevin Dunigan invested their personal dollars and sweat equity into the community and signed our lease July 16, 2021. We went all in creating from a blank canvas. Putting long labor hours into a dream realized.
Unfortunately, it took six months until February 2022 for us to open the cafe. This was due to a variety of factors including COVID regulations, permitting delays, and a slower than anticipated buildout of the space. These unforeseen circumstances deeply impacted our capabilities, however we succeeded at opening.
Since opening, we hired staff from the community, held vendor and collaborative events, opened our doors to musicians, artists, photographers, and become a creative space. We have hosted many celebrations, tea parties, birthdays, dates, and anything we could do to let everyone know we are here for our community.
We have applied for grants, city grants, PPP loans, small business loans, and have received none in the way of support. The toll on our personal finances continues to grow with rent increases.
We now humbly ask for your help to save our dream, and to save our small black veteran owned cafe. Anything helps: $1 , $5, spreading the word, letting people know that we are here to serve. Actionable ideas, volunteer hours, we are trying to keep the faith and keep our doors open.
